elope = kawin lari
eg. Their parent wouldn’t consent  to the wedding so the couple decided to elope.
The matchmaker = mak comblang
Stage-fright = deam panggung
Eg. She is just too nervous to sing right now, may be later, but athe moment she is suffering from stage-fright
Crocodile tears = air mata buaya
Used to say that someone may be crying but they are not really upset.
Like selling ice to the Eskimo = menjaring angin
Used to describe useless activities.

Mate have 3 functions:
1.       in conversation. When people get together for a bit of a chat.
Eg. Adi: tim how ya doing, alright?
Bima      : yeah mate, fine. Yourself?
Cant complain, mate, can not complain.
2.       To request something, even from stranger.
Eg. Tim : excuse me, mate. Do you have the time?
Stave : yeah, its uh, one o’clock.
3.       To express surprising
Eg. Bima : hay, how did you like “ titanic?
Dino : mate! It was terrific, loved it !
Money for jam = uang mudah didapat
Money doesn’t grow on trees = uang susah didapat.
school’s out = sudah selesai. { to say something is over}
what school did you go to? = belajar dari mana itu?
Live and learn = belajar dari pengalaman
Face the music = berani berbuat harus berani bertanggung jawab
Went for a song = dijual sangat murah sekali.
Change his tune = berubah sikap
As safe as house = sangat aman
On the house = barang yang gratis dari penjualan.
As different as chalk and cheese = sangat berbeda
A different kettle of fish = situasi yang berbeda
Fire away = ayo mulai
Fire up = bersemangat
As dry as chip or as dry as a bobe = sangat kering
The trees are chasing the dogs = kemarau panjang
What aload of rubbish/ garbage = omong kosong
Not for love nor money = tidak mau/ setuju dengan imbalan apapun.
As old as the hills = tua sekali
All at sea = bingung sekali
There are plenty more fish in the sea = masih ada teman atau pilihan lain.
As smooth as silk = halus atau lembut.
Worm your way out of it = mencari alasan untuk tidak melakukan sesuatu.
A bear for = sangat bersemangat
A blue rose = tak mungkin terjadi
A fish out of water = tak pada tempatnya
A gone coon = putus asa
A breast of = mengikuti

at bottom = sepanjang hari
back and forth = mondar mandir
back away = mengundurkan diri
ball up = membingungkan
be about to = hampir akan
be done = ditipu
bear a cross = menahan susah
become personal = ingin tahu
beef about = mengeluh
bend over backwards = berusaha sekuat tenaga
bent out = berniat
better by along chalk = jauh lebih baik
between hay and grass = belum waktunya.
Boud to = harus / wajib
Bow to = tunduk kepada
Break ones mind = menyampaikan isi hati
Break the black of = mengatasi
Bring around = menyadarkan
Call a halt = menghentikan
Call dawn = mendamprat
Call off = menunda
Call ones shots = berterus terang (I cant call my shots to you)
Carried away with = terpesona
Carve out = berusaha keras
Cast aside = menolak
Chase after = mengejar
Clear a root = merintis jalan
Close about = tak suka bicara tentang
Crack down = mengambil tindakan tegas
Cut up rough = marah
Dam up = membendung
Day in and day out = tiap hari
Do credit = membanggakan
Double cross = menipu
Down the ground = sama sekali (your statement was down the ground)
Down on = tidak suka kepada
Drow amoral from = meminta nasehat
Drift ashore = terdampar
Drop ahint = menasehati
Drop to = memahami
Earn a living = mencari nafkah
Easy of = merampas
Easy out = memecat
Eat crow = memaafkan
